What Mile Marker does

Mile Marker plans road trips across the United States. Enter where you're starting and where you're headed, and it lays out the drive day by day, with stops placed by where they fall along the road.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up or login. Open the app and plan a trip.

Why does the app ask for my location?

So your trip can start from where you are and the app can find stops near you. It's optional: you can say no and type a starting point instead, and you can change it any time in your device settings. Details are in the privacy policy.

How does it decide where I stop each night?

It splits the route by the daily mile and driving-hour limits you set in Garage, then looks for the kinds of lodging you picked (camping, hotels and motels, Airbnb, VRBO, or staying with friends) near the end of each day. Change the limits and the plan updates.

How are meal stops chosen?

The app works out where you'll be at breakfast, lunch and dinner based on your departure time, then suggests places to eat near that point on the route. Each meal can be added to your day, swapped for another suggestion, or skipped. You can turn meals off or set a cuisine and price limit.

Why don't fuel, lodging and attraction results show ratings or hours?

To keep lists fast, those results show the mile marker, the detour time and the category. Tap "See hours & rating" on a stop to load them.

Stop suggestions say they're paused. What happened?

The app has a daily limit on live place lookups. When it's reached, new stop suggestions pause until midnight Pacific time. Your route and the stops you've already added keep working.

Does the app give turn-by-turn directions?

No. When you're ready to drive, tap the Drive button and your route opens in Google Maps or Apple Maps (pick your favorite in Garage).

Does it work outside the United States?

Not yet. The place, park, campground and charger data the app uses covers the US.

Are hours, prices and availability always right?

They come from third parties and can change, so please check before you go. And please don't use the app while driving.

How do I delete my data?

Your settings are stored on your device, so uninstalling the app removes them. See the privacy policy for what the app sends to map and data services.
